Those are custom, remote-controlled boats playing beach-ball soccer outside the engineering building. My former mechatronics classmates designed, programmed and built them in under 3 weeks. You can tell the quarter's almost over when ME218 creations come out to play.
It was great to see my old colleagues again and reminisce:
Hey, remember when we stayed up for 2 days straight and still couldn't get the IR sensors to work?? ahHAHAhahahaha... good times, good times.
No, but seriously, it was great to talk with my old labmates and check out their totally cool boats. They even let me have a go steering Ariel. Seeing their projects inspired me to look up a few microcontrollers online. I love my job, but I do wish it involved more electronics and/or programming.
Summer is the best time for crazy-ass projects, especially since I'm only working 30 hrs a week. Not sure what I would build. Josh wants a little 'bot that rolls around and brings him beer on command, but I think we'd better start out small, especially since he's not here to help me code.
If only I could merge the spud-gun and smart chip into one project... hmmmm...
