Pales in Comparison

Painfully bad pictures of fireworks. I was very far away from them and it was dark out. At least I didn't use flash.

Five years ago I couldn't have imagined I would be playing "Gay Bar", "Hard to Handle" and "White Punks on Dope" at a future 4th of July parade. Just to even things out, we also treated people to a spirited rendition of "Livin' in the USA". I also made a point to wear red, white and blue rally. Well, I was the 'white' in that lineup, but 8 hours in the sun changed all that.

Five years ago I also couldn't have imagined this time being so anticlimactic-- essentially void of food and friends.
Fourth of July used to be my favorite holiday. It's so deeply entwined with countless fond memories of hot, sticky summer nights back in Oklahoma. Nights full of black cats and bottle rockets and tangy BBQ. My first sips of beer. Lakewater and videogames. Staying up late with whatever hilarious group we'd collected that year. I was so young... I just assumed it would always be that way.

I need to stop dwelling on the past.
