Weekend of Weekends

So here I am wearing half rally (in anticipation for the band trip), rushing to the station, when an elderly man calls out to me from his yard.

"Miss, are you in a hurry"
"Um, yeah, a little bit... but do you need something?"

He smiles slowly, bends down and plucks a single small flower from amongst the blades of grass.

"Do you know what this is called, in English?" He asks, holding the bright yellow flower up for me to see.
"Yes. That's a dandelion."
"Exactly. In French it's called 'Dent de Lion' meaning 'Tooth of the Lion'."

The man's face forms a lopsided grin as he places the flower into my outstretched hand.

"It is my present for you today."

I thanked him, folded the Dent de Lion carefully into my hair, and boarded a bus down to LA where I cheered as Stanford served U$C their worst home game loss ever.

This world really is crazy and wonderful.

  2. I was quite shocked and touched. Normally I go about my day sans human interaction (save coworkers), so to have a complete stranger go out of his way to give me a beautiful flower was a real treat!
